Ahead of our flagship event, the Transatlantic Leaders Forum, we asked Anne-Hélène Illich, Co-head Private Wealth Management Paris @Goldman Sachs, to talk to us about transatlanticism at the legendary investment bank.

According to an article in Les Echos (May, 2024), France is at the heart of Goldman Sachs Private Wealth Management’s European strategy. Why?

France is a key market for our European franchise and Paris is our largest continental office across all of our businesses. The city is strongly connected to other financial centres such as New York or Hong Kong. We are seeing very successful business creation and growth in areas like luxury, technology and financial services in the country. Given or leading Investment Banking and Alternatives franchises, we have a particular strength in the French tech community and have been a beneficiary of the wealth creation in this sector. Goldman Sachs is a natural choice for French clients with a global mindset, both in their business and personal affairs.

What is the meaning of being Transatlantic at Goldman Sachs Private Wealth?

Goldman Sachs is one of the world’s largest private wealth managers for UHNW individuals. The key to our success is the global access we give our clients to two world-class, interconnected franchises in asset and wealth management and banking and markets. In fact, our French clients are very international. We regularly connect them “trans-atlantic” with specialists in New York or San Francisco, but also host conferences in the Middle East or Asia. That allows them to find and connect with peers as well, exchange best practices and discuss markets and issues that are relevant to them.

When is the right time to start the conversation with Goldman Sachs Private Wealth?

When a founder is considering selling their business or going public, it’s never too early to broach the topic with an advisor. This will likely be one of their life’s biggest decisions. Not only does reaching these milestones change how a founder spends countless hours, it carries the power to define their professional success and establish their legacy for generations. As one prepares for and engages in this crucial time period, it’s easy to be consumed by the business side of a potential transaction and lose sight of long-term personal goals. We help founders explore the key considerations that may help them maximize their impact & legacy, both pre- and post IPO.
